global change opportunities for grace your space and other real world alliance initiatives

THE EARTH REPAIR FOUNDATION is prompting for world-wide adoption of the earth repair charter and the Vision 2020 Global Solution Strategy.
ERF is committed to initiatives for community advancement and world improvement. We know that our work makes a positive contribution to the lives of many.
We are all here on planet Earth now, speeding in orbit around the Sun at almost 108,000 kilometres an hour while spinning on Earth’s own axis at 1600 kilometres an hour. We are part of the Solar System in the Milky Way Galaxy in the infinite universe.
Each of us is alive for such a short period that to spend any time engaged in conflict and war is illogical and irreverent to life. Together, we can end the culture of terrorism and war and co-create a culture of peace that will last for the longest time!
The Earth Repair Foundation was incorporated in Sydney Australia in 1987 and is an independent, voluntary, self-funded, non-government organisation (NGO) dedicated to prompting adoption of solution strategies for a sustainable future.
During the last three decades, ERF has researched and defined many achievable solutions resulting in a practical blueprint called the Earth Repair Charter and Vision 2020 Global Solution Strategy. These have received widespread acclaim and endorsement.
The Charter and the Vision 2020 strategy are the result of intensive research and careful definition in consultation with educators, indigenous councils, scientists, environmentalists, spiritual leaders, wise elders and others committed to world improvement. It is a global action plan for a future without war and the people of Earth united in peace. Click here to see the Charter.
ERF is a voluntary organisation committed to the movement for world improvement. Volunteers to help network earth repair solutions on internet, are invited and welcomed, or consider participating in implementing various timely initiatives that can be discovered by browsing through these progressively expanding pages. Click the Seeds For Peace poster for a larger version of this production prompting a whole system change.
ERF has co-ordinated research and development into achievable solutions and has produced a practical world-vision Earth Repair Charter Global Solution Strategy which has received widespread acclaim and endorsement.
Click on the picture of the Charter to download a pdf. The Charter and related initiatives offer self-evident achievable solutions to help bring about a sustainable and peaceful future for all. It is a concise, long-term global action plan for a future without war, and the people of Earth united in peace.
The goal is to help the maximum number of people to achieve the greatest benefits that will last for the longest time. It is a Charter from the people, for the people, and for all governments to adopt its objectives and the world’s best practices to minimise our consumption of Earth’s finite resources and fully make the transition to renewable energy systems.
In today’s world there are many troublesome problems that we are all facing. These problems have motivated this earth repair work:
• The Current annual global military budget is rumoured to be over $3 trillion dollars. When all wars are ended, humanity will save nearly $20 million dollars every hour. Daily, thousands of people, mostly children, die from hunger and lack of basic needs while millions of others are deprived of clean water, food, shelter and health care. In some countries, shocking inequities and human rights abuses still exist;
• World-wide, desperation including suicide are on the increase, particularly amongst our youth. Without vision people can perish;
• Every day on our planet, over one billion transport vehicles emit toxic fumes into the atmosphere. It is known that if a person pipes the exhaust emissions directly into the cabin of a vehicle while in it, they would die within a short time. Yet people in cities and towns around the world are breathing these invisible toxins continually. Earth has a growing hole in its ozone layer, and climate changes and global warming are facts of life. Humanity is finding it difficult to co-ordinate solutions to these eco-dilemmas;
• Deforestation. Acid rain. Global warming. Earth’s natural ecosystems essential for sustaining of life have been, and continue to be, dangerously depleted. Destruction of the Earth’s natural heritage of biodiverse old-growth forests and other high conservation value areas including species extinction, continues globally, thus robbing future generations. As caretakers of the Earth, we humans are obliged to work to reverse this current trend of ecocide. Please select ‘initiatives’ to see what we do and how you may be able to help.
ERF is closely aligned with the Environment Program and Blue Mountains Sub-Branch of the United Nations Association of Australia (NSW) Inc. Click here to see UNAA NSW Inc’s website or click hereto see UNAA NSW on FaceBook.
As ERF grows, its best is yet to come! The acronym ERF also represents Earth Repair Family, Friends, Fun, Finances, Festivals, and a Fabulous Future. Participation is invited, especially from individuals who can see the value in this optimistic, practical and achievable, artistic expression of creative visioning.
You are now able to contribute to ERF by ordering a set of Mind-Vitamin Thought-Seed self-adhesive Stickers or Poster-Cards from the ERF Shop above. Also, voluntary skills and/or financial donations to help ERF grow are invited, welcomed and gratefully appreciated.
ERF Worm, the Foundation’s Official Mascot says: ‘Compost, Don’t Waste, Make Humus-Soil, Growing Food is Play, Not Toil’. ERF invites you to listen to a fabulous one minute and 38 second song by Evie Pikler called, ‘WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW IS A SENSE OF HUMUS’.

Protect natural heritage and biodiversity
• respect the Earth and take responsibility for all our actions, realising the inter-connectedness of all life; • protect in perpetuity and cease further destruction of all remaining bio-diverse native forests and other areas of high conservation value, including lakes, rivers and oceans; • prohibit the contamination of air, soil and waterways; • accelerate training and employment programs to repair previously-cleared and degraded lands by planting and companion growing, increasing quantities of permaculture designed food forests to help stabilise the climate and counteract global warming; • plant and intergrow with companion vegetation, increasing quantities of appropriate trees to help repair the atmosphere; • preserve and maintain the genetic diversity of seeds, plants and animals in their natural habitats; • implement a moratorium on releasing genetically engineered crops which can interfere irreversibly with natural biodiversity; • label accordingly all foods altered with DNA technology.
Honour the UN Charter and respect all peoples • uphold the United Nations Charter; • engage with the wisdom of Indigenous Peoples and learn from their history, cultures and spiritual values; • support self-determination and sovereign treaty rights worldwide; • facilitate permanent representation of the world’s Indigenous Nations and Peoples in all United Nations forums; • honour the inheritance and protection of traditional languages, knowledge, sacred materials and sites; • learn wisdom from enlightened elders of all cultures.
Enable ecologically sustainable development • adopt the world’s best practices and reduce, reuse and recycle to minimise our consumption of Earth’s finite resources; • educate for a sustainable world population by providing comprehensive and free family-planning assistance; • provide adequate sustainable habitat to end homelessness; • introduce into education systems, reverence for nature, and the essential life skills of family planning, birthing and parenting, first-aid, effective communication, self-esteem and creative expression; • co-operate internationally and reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by replacing fossil-fuel use with safe and renewable energy technologies; • disengage from nuclear industries and cease uranium mining until safety is ensured from all radioactive materials, mine tailings and by-products from the nuclear cycle; • implement a moratorium on releasing genetically engineered crops which can interfere irreversibly with natural biodiversity; • label accordingly all foods altered with DNA technology; • increase the provision and efficient use of public transport systems; • utilise environmentally responsible products and services, and deal only with materials manufactured or created within the principles of ecologically sustainable development; • contribute to inter-generational equity and justice by progressively planning for the wellbeing of future generations.
Acquire health and immunity efficiency • incorporate a complementary and wholistic approach into health care and medical sciences; • practise the wisdom of Hippocrates, who taught, “Let your food be your medicine and your medicine be your food”; • remember that prevention is better than cure; • attain and maintain physical and mental wellbeing by combining an optimistic attitude, sleep, exercise and a nutritious diet of fresh, organically grown leaves, including sprouted seeds, nuts and grains, raw fruits, vegetables and herbs; • abstain from over-eating and health-reducing practices, such as smoking tobacco, and alcohol and drug abuse; • inspire everyone to realise their highest physical, mental and spiritual potential.
Use permaculture to help end world hunger • supersede unsustainable monoculture, toxic pesticide use and intensive animal factory-farming, with high-yielding, diverse, local, organic agricultural systems and free-range animal farming; • establish efficient food and medicine gardens as productive permaculture learning and growing centres, in schools, home yards, parks, gaols, juvenile and refugee detention centres; • propagate, plant and help grow food forests, inter-cropped with complementary vegetation, in all possible city, urban and rural areas to produce fruits, nuts, vegetables, herbs, grains, fibre, timber and fuel to increase ethical employment and help end hunger & poverty; • promote individual and community self-reliance through local exchange trading systems, and natural low-impact landcare strategies.
Practise composting to restore soils • produce valuable humus-rich soil for home, municipal, farm and forestry use by composting all currently-wasted biodegradable materials; • replace artificial fertilisers with fine rock-dust and humus to revitalise soils, increase the nutrient value of food crops and boost resistance to plant disease; • treat sewage extracting bio-gas and fertilise trees to accumulate biomass.
Base economic order on social justice • promote equal opportunity for everyone; • encourage ethical investing and demand that corporate business and governments put the welfare of people before profits and military spending; • support the U.N. and grant amnesty for political prisoners and relieve the debt burdens of impoverished countries; • aim for fair resource distribution to satisfy the essential needs of all to live with health and dignity.
Resolve conflict with creative mediation • learn, develop and encourage the skills of conflict resolution; • expedite participatory democracy between people and their elected governments and councils; • establish a Ministry For Peace within every government; • nurture equality, love, respect and understanding between individuals, genders, age groups, families, castes, communities, cultures and races; • encourage all religions, faiths, nations and peoples to co-exist in harmony as one family, sharing the Earth as our common home; • uphold the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights and ensure freedom of speech for all; • facilitate equal worldwide access to education resources & communication technologies; • ensure basic human rights and freedom of speech for all; • investigate and rectify all human rights violations; • motivate the media to be positive, accurate and responsible.
Transform the military to earth repair • redirect funding, expertise and resources from all national military services towards implementing this solution strategy as the priority within each country; • enable each nation to participate in developing the United Nations Global Peacekeeping Operations to ensure international security; • decommission and eliminate nuclear and biological armaments, depleted uranium, land mines, cluster bombs and all instruments of mass destruction.
Unite with others in a common purpose • enhance the future by helping achieve the local and global objectives of this Charter; • network to raise awareness of this solution strategy and propose its goals for adoption by education, religious, union, political, business, legal, military and community groups, local Councils, and for legislation by Governments; • contribute towards a peaceful and abundant Earth, where everyone can enjoy life in wisdom, happiness, harmony and love.

Some of the adventures we’ve provided product support for have been truly remarkable.
Grant Keene – Snow Leopard Challenge
Grant’s ambition was to be the first Australian to climb the five highest mountains (all over 7000m) in the former USSR and be awarded the Snow Leopard award. “On previous climbs, I discovered that a lot of my gear was inadequate for the intense cold of the Pamir and Tien Shan ranges (Pik Pobeda is the coldest mountain on earth) and that I would need to upgrade some of my kit,” he wrote in his application. “Having used Kathmandu gear on previous climbs (old sleeping bag, boots, pack, head torch and more), I was thinking of getting the sleeping bag and mat when I heard about the sponsorship program.”
We provided Grant with crucial outdoor equipment to support his challenge and, although he was unable to complete the Snow Leopard challenge this year due to extremely dangerous conditions on two of the mountains he was attempting, he says his Kathmandu sleeping bag was “toasty and warm” despite “the howling wind outside and spindrift blowing in from all angles”.
Chris Byrnes – World Challenge to Nepal
Fifteen-year-old Chris embarked on a fantastic adventure to trek Nepal and help build a school, as organised by his school, Brighton Secondary College, and World Challenge. In his application, he wrote: “It’s my dream that this trip will not only be a great adventure in another and very different part of the world but also allow me to help people less fortunate than me”.
We provided essential clothing and equipment suited to the extreme conditions Chris would be hiking in: heights of 4800m and temperatures as low as −15˚C in Nepal’s Langtang region. “On our project, we helped a school by painting two buildings and assisting with the construction of a new toilet block,” wrote Chris, following his trip. This effort was on top of raising funds to continue building the school and sponsoring local children to attend school.
Nicholette Te Wao – The Hunger Project
Kathmandu was thrilled to help Nicholette live her dream of co-founding and successfully completing the Sth Sydney 2 Sth Coast Walk for Hunger to raise money for the Hunger Project. The Hunger Project is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission to end world hunger by investing money, vision, commitment and leadership in communities so that hungry people can feed themselves and their families.
Nicholette’s event saw a team of 15 walkers travel 100km nonstop, from Maroubra to Wollongong, in 29 hours. They raised an amazing $58,000. “This adventure is part of a bigger journey where I have committed to raising over $100,000 for the Hunger Project in partnership with the Business Chicks Leadership and Immersion Program,” said Nicholette. “The gear I received from Kathmandu was invaluable in getting me through to the end. A special mention goes to the walking poles, the windbreaker and the backpack with water bladder. Thank you so much.”

Hydration Tips and Tricks
Proper hydration is absolutely essential for good performance on a run, as well as overall health. Dehydration is a quiet menace and it’s easy to ignore, especially in cold weather.
Dehydration affects the body’s ability to transfer heat, forcing the heart to beat faster. It can cause headaches, fatigue, cramps and a decrease in coordination. Severe cases can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Following a few simple steps, though, can ward off dehydration and help you perform at your best.
Before you run
There are several different types of gear to help you carry water while running. Your own preference is the only criteria that matters: everything else are details. Be patient while looking for hydration gear that suits your needs: it often takes trial and error, so borrow gear until you find what works for you.

Severe cases can lead to heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Following a few simple steps, though, can ward off dehydration and help you perform at your best.
Before you run
- Hydrate well during the entire week and try to keep alcohol at a minimum.
- One or two hours before a run, drink 250 - 500 ml of water, a sports drink, iced coffee or tea.
- Forgot to do that? No worries – 15 or 30 minutes before your run, drink 200 - 250 ml of the same.
- Stay cool: colder drinks are proven performance enhancers. Try freezing a drink overnight and topping it off with fluid for a pre-, during or post-run drink.
- If you’re running for less than one hour, drink 100 - 150 ml every 15 to 20 minutes; if you’ve had a tough run (i.e. a hill climb), finish with a sports drink at the end to replace sodium, electrolytes and other minerals.
- Running one to four hours: again, drink 100 - 150 ml every 15 to 20 minutes and finish with a sports drink.
- Running more than four hours: drink 100 - 150 ml every 15 minutes, finish with a sports drink, and use your thirst in between as a guide.
- Drink to your thirst: experts agree that’s the best rule of thumb.
- Plan your hydration: note your thirst and performance during training runs and start following a hydration programme; try setting your watch to beep every 15 to 20 minutes to remind you to hydrate.
- If you’re running a loop, stash some water along the way so you don’t have to carry it.
- Fluids are based on sweat: change your fluid intake to match different conditions (i.e. increased heat).
- Replace your fluids with water or a sports drink. Drink enough so you have to use the bathroom 60 to 90 minutes after your run – your urine should be the colour of light lemonade.
- If you’re a casual runner (i.e. less than an hour in mild conditions at a moderate pace), you don’t need to hydrate with a sports drink – the intake of calories might be more than you expend during your run.
- If you prefer the taste of sports drinks to water while running, just rinse your mouth with a sports drink every 15 minutes during an hour-long run.
There are several different types of gear to help you carry water while running. Your own preference is the only criteria that matters: everything else are details. Be patient while looking for hydration gear that suits your needs: it often takes trial and error, so borrow gear until you find what works for you.
Handheld bottles
Pros
- Good for shorter runs or winter runs.
- Preferred by runners who don’t like to be weighed down with a pack.
- Easier to carry than disposable or plastic bottles.
- Inexpensive.
- Often come with pockets for keys.
- Ties up your hands if you trip over rough terrain.
- Some runners report it makes their hands uncomfortably hot and sweaty.
Pros
- Bottles can be carried in a variety of ways: canted across the back, in the small of the back, multiple small bottles or in a bladder.
- The multiple bottle option can be filled with both water and sports drinks and evenly distributes weight of water around the waist.
- Easy to access and nothing to hold.
- Good for hot days when you don’t want to wear a full pack.
- The belt needs to be fitted well and cinched tightly to avoid bouncing / chafing.
- Good for summer / longer runs when you need to carry more water.
- Extra pockets to carry keys, phone, ID, food, extra layers and basic first aid – like a sprain bandage and torch (if you’re not carrying a pack, plan how you’ll cope if you get injured while running).
- Nothing to hold in your hands.
- Evenly distributes the weight of the water across your shoulders and back.
- Can be hot during summer weather.
- Difficult to re-fill on the go and can be hard to clean.

For our Summer 14 shoot, we flew two Summit Club members and two Kathmandu staff members to the tropical islands of Tonga to adventure-test our latest gear.
With ear-to-ear smiles and an 'up-for-anything' attitude, our team – Ruby, Tess, Ari and Andy – hiked, cycled, swam, snorkelled, climbed and caved their way through the Polynesian archipelago that's affectionately known as the 'Friendly Islands'.
From climbing ovava trees and jumping off shipwrecks to helping our German host bake wood-fired pizzas on ‘Eua Island, outdoor rec student Ari was into any and every adventure in Tonga. “I like getting amongst it,' he says. "Just watching is all right, but if you can get in there and do it you learn, and it’s just a better experience.”
Environmental scientist Andy loves being in the outdoors and Tonga didn't disappoint. “My favourite experience was hiking the east coast of ‘Eua," he says. "There are some really impressive 100-metre cliffs and we hiked along the very edge and camped along the very edge. Tonga met and exceeded any expectations I did have. I’ll definitely be back.”
University student and part-time Kathmandu staff member Tessa spends a lot of her time travelling. “Tonga is probably one of the most rural places I’ve been to," she says. "The people are a bit guarded at first, but once you say hi and have a chat to them, this whole other side appears. This is the friendliest place I’ve ever visited.”
“Places have different personalities; it’s built into the culture,” says Ruby, also a Kathmandu staff member. “Tonga’s personality is undisturbed, laid back and very friendly."
"As for Kathmandu, I love the culture behind the team: the ‘live the dream’ culture goes into the everyday working life. I’m surrounded by creative people who love what they do, and every now and again an amazing opportunity comes up, like the opportunity to travel to Tonga.”

GREAT BARRIER REEF ISLAND CONSERVATION
The Challenge
The Great Barrier Reef is spectacular. And it’s huge. Island conservation is critical as our islands are often the last refuge for species that you can’t find anywhere else.
It’s hard to image its pristine waters, colourful reefs and abundant marine life as under threat. But they are.
The threats are multiple and include pollution, poor fishing practices and climate change. The real threat though comes from us not taking action.
We’ve got some incredible work happening on a bunch of beautiful islands. Come on a Wild Mob trip and visit the Great Barrier Reef. Be awed by its beauty and do your bit to keep it spectacular.
OUR PLAN
Through a range of partnerships we’re helping protect, research and restore islands from the southern Capricorn Cays to the northern Whitsundays. Because we’re working on islands, all of our conservation projects deliver almost immediate tangible and measurable impacts.
Our once in a lifetime trips involve sailing to a remote island, setting up camp in some beautiful locations and then splitting our time between conservation work and exploring the islands with snorkeling, diving and many other adventures.
We have many different projects ranging from gathering much needed data on the vulnerable Flatback turtle nesting habitats, to sighting and monitoring population trends of the globally significant populations of Black Noddies and Wedge-tailed Shearwaters as well as restoring habitat for scientifically relevant population of koalas and critically endangered beach scrub forests.
Get Involved
Come along for a trip of a lifetime. You’ll get to enjoy the spectacular Great Barrier Reef, see the creatures living there in a way no other tourist does and get to feel excellent about doing your little bit to keep it safe for generations to come.

Norfolk Island (3655ha) lies in the south-west Pacific 1400km Point Howe – Norfolk Island east of mainland Australia and 1500km south-west of Fiji. An external, self-governing territory of Australia, Norfolk has strong ecological affinities with New Zealand, but is also unique as it is one of the few islands founded on a seamount in the warm temperate zone. Norfolk has a bewildering range of endemic plants, animals and ecosystems, and indeed, is a global priority island for which biodiversity conservation efforts are recommended.
The Norfolk Island Group is a globally important biodiversity hotspot and has been designated as an ‘Important Bird Area’ by Birdlife International. The group is a breeding site for several 100,000 seabirds including the masked booby, grey ternlet, white tern, sooty tern, & wedge-tailed shearwater. Phillip Island supports one of the largest breeding populations of red-tailed tropic birds in Australia. Norfolk is also home to the endemic & endangered Norfolk Island Green Parakeet, & other endemic birds such as the Norfolk Island golden whistler & Norfolk Island scarlet robin.

Wilderness Camps
Total Adventures invites your school to take part in one of our unique Wilderness Camps. Students are nurtured through a balanced involvement in the activities and camp life creating a greater awareness of themselves and other people.
Why choose a Wilderness Camp over another style of school camp?
Wilderness School Camps rely on group cooperation while fostering a sense of interdependence as participants explore their attitude towards themselves and their peers. The camps provide students with the opportunity to develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills while exploring their own potential. Students become proactive in a number of different situations that involve trust, decision making and recognising the individual differences that make each of us unique.
LocationCamp Glastonbury is set on 160 hectares of pristine private land adjacent to Brooyar State Forest, in the scenic Mary Valley north-west of Gympie. The level campground lies beside Glastonbury Creek. This quiet retreat contains rainforest, open eucalypt forest, Queensland best hoop pine plantations and panoramic views from high cliff-top lookouts and cool rainforest creeks. Patches of riverine rainforest fringe Glastonbury Creek. Glastonbury is just 20 minutes north-west of Gympie or two and a half hours drive north of Brisbane.
Duration3 – 5 days
Camp Facilities for Teachers
Camp Programmes
Individual programs can be designed based on the goal of the camp. Activities that lend themselves to relevant issues can be implemented to get the most out of each camp. Wilderness camps may also centre around one specific adventure activity.
The level of the camp activities varies according to age and experience of the group. Students are encouraged to participate in all activities and to use peer support as a means of motivation for others. Total Adventures practices the philosophy of Challenge by Choice and uses one on one support to assist students who want to do some of the more challenging activities, but need that extra support. Students also participate in the daily routines around camp that have just as strong an impact on individuals as the activities.
“I wish to express my sincere thanks for the professional and very polished camp program you ran for our year 8 students. During the five days of our camp I observed quality presentations of all activities. Not only were these activities challenging and educational but also geared to gain maximum participation and enjoyment for all involved.” West Moreton Anglican College.
Camp Accommodation
The only way to really experience this magnificent region is through camping. But camping does not mean being uncomfortable. Students sleep in modern tents provided by Total Adventures and use a range of modern camping equipment.
Camp Catering
One of the main features of any camp is the food. It is the one item that is remembered the most. Out in the wilderness where there is plenty of fresh air, students’ appetites seem as big as the outdoors. Total Adventures uses qualified chefs while on camp so catering is well balanced, nutritional and there is plenty of it.

Planting trees, changing minds
Greenpop is on a mission to
(re)connect people with our planet.
We plant trees and have fun doing it.
It’s a Treevolution. Get Involved!
http://www.greenpop.org/
“To make up for the world’s loss of trees in the past decade, we need to plant about 14 billion trees every year for 10 years in a row.” UNEP. In South Africa, we need to plant trees as we are part of the global problem. We also need to address disparity – there is a huge divide between ‘leafy’ privileged and ‘barren’ under-privileged areas. Without a culture of planting trees in under-greened areas, environmental and social challenges are exacerbated.
WHY GREENPOP ?What we do?
Greenpop plants trees and invites everyone to join the treevolution, see inspiration instead of gloom in the green space and create innovative and sustainable solutions. We pride ourselves in making green living fun, educating people on best practice tree care, monitoring our trees and ensuring that together we leave a lasting legacy.
Why it counts?
We live in built environments and it’s easy to lose touch with the fact that we live on earth and it sustains us. Getting our hands into the soil reconnects us with nature. Tree planting has benefits that reach far beyond carbon sequestration - different cultures, races and ages come together to do something that benefits all.
